DPF REGENERATION- software forced regeneration program, increases the exhaust temperature and burns out the soot from the filter. Usually a temporary measure, but in some cases works for many miles. In general used to sell the car and the pass the problem on to the new owner- not what we recommend...

DPF REMOVAL- in our (and our customers) opinion- the best way of dealing with the problem. Removal means saving money and peace of mind. Prices start form as little as £250- it is always much cheaper than replacement, and unlike main dealers, we can guarantee our work.

What we will do as a part of our service:

- diagnose the problem, perform a health check of the vehicle(the particulate filter failure is often a result, not the cuse);

- physically remove the particulate filter, leaving the catalytic converter required for MOT's;

- remap the ECU- change the software and delete all the DPF / FAP functions. This is always done specifically for your car without using any automated software. This is very important as after the removal the pressure in the exhaust changes and our remap has to take this into account to ensure no turbo problems. Alternatively- fitting of an emulator programmed for the car (please phone or e-mail us for advice or to discuss the options).

- test drive and perform another health check to ensure MOT pass and no other problems.

All in all this takes anything between 3-8 hours, if you decide to come to us- we can give you a lift to the town and bring you back when the car is ready.

About the DPF / FAP.

You can find them in most modern diesels- and as the name says, particulate filters are designed and fitted in one purpose- to filter the particulate matter, soot in other words. Unilke catalytic converters- they're not flow through devices. They work by forcing the gases to flow through them (the channels of the filter are blocked at alternate ends), and capture the soot in the process. All this sounds good, apart from one problem- the amount of soot builds up with time up to a point that the filter is clogged and unable to regenerate, and creates a blockage in your exhaust sytem. This means pressure, and also means that all the dirt from the exhaust goes straight back into the engine- hence EGR problems, turbo failures etc. The longer you drive with a blocked filter- the more damage and expenses. You can say the the DPF/ FAP is a timebomb- it will faill sooner or later, and this depends on your car's make/model and driving conditions- motorway being the best for the filter, short drives- the worst. It is becoming for our customers a common practice to request removal BEFORE the problems start. This way you avoid future expenses and problems with the engine.
